Living with Fibromyalgia

Deb and wall, book jpegHaving the symptoms of fibromyalgia (FM) can be described as feeling like you have the flu. You might gradually get weaker and weaker, and every muscle from the top of your head down to your toes shouts out with pain. (With some people the pain is isolated to certain parts of their body.) Even when you lay in bed, your body still hurts and is tired, and cannot be relieved by treatments of ice or heat. Your body and mind tell you to go to sleep although the pain can keep you awake. Even after eight hours in bed, you wake up feeling exhausted! You might try to find comfort from a hot shower or bath, except you are very fatigued afterwards. Some people try to find relief from the FM symptoms with medications, but normally they do not work, or the side effects can be just as bad if not worse than the original pain. Others might try going back to bed, however rest sometimes does not decrease the pain and fatigue. Many people try a topical cream of pain reliever, only to discover disappointment because they could not find relief of the muscle pain.

You finally realize that nothing seems to eliminate the pain and fatigue. You thought you would read a magazine to take your mind off of the pain, but you could not concentrate or remember what you were reading. Not to mention that the muscle fatigue was so bad that the magazine felt like it weighed a hundred pounds! You might think, “How could a small magazine, that only weighed a few ounces, make the muscles in my arms, neck, and upper back shout out in pain?” Later you decide to warm up something to eat, but by the time it is ready, you are too exhausted to eat it.

This is what it feels like for many people who have Fibromyalgia. Some people can have pain all over their body and other people can have soreness that is isolated to their back, another might suffer in their shoulders, arms and hands, and others ache in their hips and legs. They experience these symptoms day after day, for weeks, months, and even years, with the amount of pain and fatigue varying from mild to incapacitating. Many people still have to drag themselves out of bed every day and go to work while others are able to get disability benefits.
I started experiencing the symptoms of fibromyalgia (FM) when I was 15 years old (in the early 1980’s) and the symptoms gradually increased as I got older. I am happy to tell you that I have managed to reverse many of the FM symptoms through several lifestyle changes. After you read my testimony and the information included in my book, I pray that you will find hope in improving your health.

I have prayed for years for God to heal me of the many health problems that I was experiencing. I knew He could heal me in an instant if He decided to. Yes, In His time, God choose to bring me relief from the FM symptoms, but it was in a different form than what I had expected.

At the time, I didn’t understand how my body was designed to work or how the cells in my body were being destroyed. In the Bible, God explains in the book of Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” Without the necessary knowledge, I was unable to make healthy choices and my health had already decline during the 10 year span from 15 to 25 years old!

Proverbs 2:6 explains, “For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Instead of healing me instantaneously like I had asked Him to, God brought people in my life that taught me about nutrition, toxins, detoxifying, parasites, candida, hormones, exercise, and many other lifestyle choices. I believe God used these people to give me the necessary knowledge and understanding about the issues I needed to get healthy. God is so good!

I am not an expert in the field of nutrition, but I come to you as a reporter. I want to explain to you what all I have learned from the “experts” so you can make an educated decision about your own health. I pray that the information in this book will act as a self-help manual enabling people to have a better understanding of the symptoms of fibromyalgia. I hope that this information will help people to find a way to regain their health and to help them to have a good quality of life, despite the FM symptoms. I pray that this book gives people hope for if I can regain my health, then you can too!

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
